Corey and Krista Nixon built Tactical Grooming to bring that experience to Madison, Alabama. After years of seeing inconsistent service in other shops, they decided to create something better for their community.

Built From Experience
Krista spent nearly 20 years working in salons and barbershops before Tactical Grooming opened. As a dual-licensed Master Cosmetologist and Barber, she saw customers constantly deal with inconsistent haircuts and poor service experiences.
Corey, an Army veteran and systems engineer, understood how strong systems and customer experience make a business successful. He handled the technology and operations side while Krista focused on delivering top-tier barber services.
Together, they built a barbershop focused on professionalism, consistency, and respect for every client.
Humble Beginnings in Madison
Tactical Grooming did not begin in a polished storefront. The shop started in the dining room of a house already operating as a salon.
Their first barber chair was literally built from a 2x8 board and pillows. Corey built the website and booking system while Krista built a loyal client base one appointment at a time.
Growth came through word of mouth and consistent service, not advertising hype.
Why the Name Tactical Grooming
The name reflects both the services offered and the people the shop was built to serve.
Grooming represents their goal of providing complete men’s grooming services, from haircuts and beard trims to straight razor shaves and eventually expanded men’s spa services.
Tactical reflects their dedication to serving military members, veterans, police officers, EMTs, and first responders, along with men who appreciate discipline and high standards.
A Personal Reason for Serving Veterans
Corey’s time in the Army shaped part of the shop’s mission. While serving at Ft. Bliss, TX, he regularly visited an elderly barber known for his straight razor shaves. Despite shaky hands, the barber’s precision and care made every visit memorable.
Those visits became something he looked forward to, and Corey wanted to recreate that experience back home in Madison. A place where men could relax, receive quality service, and feel respected.

Corey and Krista began creating their own all-natural grooming products to help shops and customers dealing with shortages. What started as a temporary solution became part of Tactical Grooming’s long-term brand.
Today, clients can maintain their look at home using the same quality grooming products trusted inside the shop.
Recognized Across Alabama
Customer support and consistent service helped Tactical Grooming grow quickly in reputation.
In 2025, the shop earned Best of Alabama, becoming one of only three barbershops statewide to receive the award and the only one in North Alabama recognized that year.
The award came from customer votes, not marketing campaigns, reflecting the loyalty and trust the shop built in the community.

Corey and Krista continue to grow Tactical Grooming, adding chairs and bringing in barbers who share their passion for quality and customer care.
